Springsteen was best this year ?? Did I Say That ?

In a year when Bruce Springsteen's 2006 album The Seeger Sessions shocked me at first because it was so different..and when I decided I didnt "have" to see this tour, some critics called it his best ever, while I thought "better than with E street Band ? could NOT be," I find myself thinking that for me personally, once again, my highest musical moments came from Bruce this year, as in all previous years. Not out of fan loyalty ...its earned. But I confess ..THIS is a year that I saw one of the better concerts nobody was talking about...Billy Joel on tour these days is something for the ages...all the hits and high points of his illustrious career are there ...it is HIS tour that was like Bruce getting the E Streeters together again to rock THIS century's roof off as well...so...with Billy a close second...its still a Bruce Springsteen World for me...but I am open minded...consider:

This year I found top 40 music I could tolerate, and even liked, more than in years past ....Beyonce, Gnarls Barkely, Justin Timberlake, (he's got a d%%% in the box for you) and ESPECIALLY Christine Aguilera offered ear candy worth dosing on. Beck, Fergie, Rod Stewart all made music that perked my ears up and made me long for the days when I listend to much more music with much more passion. And James Blunt and others with the falsetto ..sing the high notes boys ....God knows Bruce has tried ..and some would say ..failed at it.

And I realized a long time ago that for someone in their 40's as I am, we remember music as what was on the radio ...and of course music to the youngest generation is changed now. This generation will remember it's video game music as fondly ...and will consider among it's music memories, not just the top 40, but certainly things like American Idol. Every week, Idol is live, with young singers throwing down familiar music ..and it's invigaroting ..the performance aspect MUCH more so than the competitive aspect of voting or the much too hyped, albeit neccessary ramblings of the onstage critics. Live music in America's living rooms 2 times a week ...THAT was missing from Americana for a long time...too long. Thank God Idol is succeeding.

And while country music continued to be mostly about a closeup of someones face on the album cover and, although often cleverly, but mostly commercially concocted twists of phrases turned into rhymes with the same 3 chords and 4 instruments, the Dixie Chicks Album Taking The Long Way proved that if country radio don't want em, F em, you're missing out on the best thing to happen to you since Garth Brooks...no ...better. A great year when critics think that Bob Dylan was the best ...

May all years be as musically rich as 2006 was.
...and maybe the E Street Band will be back on tour in 2007

Anyone Remember John Anderson "Swingin" as Hussein is Hanged

Well....here we are on the day of the execution of the Butcher Of Baghdad Sadaam "Sodom" as George Sr. called him ..Hussein ....and for some reason, I have that cheesy country song in my head from John Anderson called "Swingin." Wonder Why ?

Linus Quote From Charile Brown Christmas From BIble

Just am always touched by the "meaning of christmas" part of Charlie Brown Christmas

Linus says to Charlie Brown in a Charlie Brown Christmas from 1965 this biblical verse:And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born in the City of Bethlehem, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men'". That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie brown

Finding Water On Mars

I just thought that on Wednesday December 6th when NASA announced that it had found water on Mars ... we aren't talking about evidence of water in the distant past on Mars, but currently flowing water....that TV networks should have broken in and the news should have led with the story. OK..you couldnt lead with that story when the Iraq Study Group (don't you just love that name?) came out with their na na na na na naaaaa na report that told George Bush that the mission was apparently NOT accomplished ...no reason to go on that aircraft carrier all gloaty now ... and so they said that something different..whatever it is...just not what we have done so far...must be done ...as Sam Cooke once said, "a change gonna come...oh yes it is." SO..on Nightly News from NBC on Deember 6th 2006, NOT A SINGLE WORD about the now apparent likelyhood that all we have to do is fly to Mars ..I know..not easy or cheap..and PROVE that we are not alone. Not a mention on the News. Geeks are astonished and insulted at the ignorance of how important this is.

Go forth and find the Mars microorganism.

Waste Management Begins With Common Sense

The other day I was driving along and saw one of those Big Green and Yellow Waste Management Company trash trucks with a huge sign on the side that said that in the last year alone they had saved umpteen million trees through recycling. That is GREAT. We all should pitch in. Let me ask, do you ever do that little bitty thing that saves, like maybe a sheet or two or paper, and think to yourself "I am saving a part of a tree." Feel good about yourself..you should. But seriously, we as a nation want to save forests of trees, I can think of no bigger uneccessary waste of valuable resources NOT limited to just the wasted forests, than JUNK MAIL ..and specifically, CREDIT CARD SOLICITATION JUNK MAIL.

Nobody wants that mailbox full of solicitation..in fact...we quite fear that someone is going to take one of our pre-approved in our name envelopes and pre-approve themselves to some of my good credit. And you can, and should, be writing your senator and congressman to let them know that they could and should do something. THEY CAN. For the good of our country, we were able to get the cigarette companies to quit advertising on TV. NOW we need the credit card companies, for the good of our future, to quit the mail bombardment. Just like with the cigs, they will have to find other ways...paperless and less intrusive ways, to market themselves...but the constant constant constant waste has got to stop. Think about this...I know you do, and I do too, pat myself on the back for that one or two pieces of paper I somehow didnt print or use, for the bundle I sent to the recycling bin...but then...LOOK in the MAILBOX....your reward for decent credit is a mailbox full of a bad idea to start with.

In case you haven't thought of it...besides the credit card companies, those who ahve the most to gain from the box of junk ..the post office. THE US post office. We need to be very very very pursuasive and active about letting our congressmen and women know we want this stopped, and tell everyone that when it is time to get a credit card, never ever respond to a mailbox solicitation. That does not mean you dont get a credit card...just use any of the other ways ..online the easiest..to choose a card, rate, and your future in more ways then one.
